Webster Elementary School (Urbandale) issued the following announcement on Aug. 13.
As we begin the 2019-20 school year, we’ll be adding SMS (text) messages as another way for the district to communicate notifications (school delays, cancellations, etc.) with families and staff. On Friday, August 16 at approximately 10:00 a.m., our notification partner, SchoolMessenger, will send a ‘welcome/opt-in’ text message to families and staff. The text will come from the following number/short code “67587” stating something similar to: “<
UPDATE: When you receive the ‘welcome/opt-in’ message on Friday, August 16, follow the instructions for how to opt-in to receive future text message notifications. (Note: This is a change from what we previously shared in the August newsletter; now you will need to opt-in in order to receive future text message notifications).
UPDATE: If you do not wish to receive future text messages from the district, you do not need to take any action. If you opt-in and decide later that you no longer wish to receive text messages, you may opt-out at any time.
UPDATE: If you do not receive the ‘welcome/opt-in’ message on Friday, August 16, families should contact your child’s school (Building Secretary) to provide an updated phone number in PowerSchool; staff should contact Maggie Holton to request your contact information be updated in SUI. Once your number is updated and imported into SchoolMessenger, you’ll receive an opt-in text message from “67587” for which you will follow the prompts for how to opt-in to receive future text message notifications.
UPDATE: After the initial SMS launch on August 16, you’re welcome to manually opt-in at any time by texting “Y” or “YES” to 67587. The 67587 is a short code that connects directly with SchoolMessenger. (Note: In order to opt-in, your phone number must be listed correctly in PowerSchool / SUI.) ANNUAL “TEST” NOTIFICATIONS FOR FAMILIES AND STAFF
Families and staff will also be receiving a “test” notification from the district on Wednesday, August 21 at approximately 11:00 a.m. that will include a phone call, text (if you have already opt’d in), and email—this is to ensure we have all of the correct contact information in our system.
If you do not receive the text/phone/email message: families should contact their school to request their contact information be updated; staff should contact Maggie Holton to request their contact information be updated in SUI.
As a reminder, the district will send notifications via phone, email, and text, post an alert on the district website, share on Twitter, and share via local media. Please be sure to stay alert, updated, and informed via these channels. Thank you!
