Joanna Poole may love math so much she teaches it, but according to the profile honoring her on the Dallas Center-Grimes district Facebook page, she knows that not all students share her love of things mathematical.
That’s part of her mission — to make learning math fun and accessible to all students.
Which is quite a challenge, as the 14-year veteran of the high school teaches Pre-Calculus, Calculus and Advanced Placement Calculus, not the easiest of subjects.
But according to her school, it is a challenge she meets with a positive attitude, and by making connections with her students and their families.
These are not just in the classroom, but also throughout the school — Poole is the faculty adviser for the Key Club.
She also meets students and their families out of school when engaging in community activities such as the Grimes United Methodist Church, where she sings and leads workship, and the Kiwanis Club.
