DC-G Staff Spotlight: SARA SMOTHERS
Sara Smothers is a sixth grade reading and English teacher. She has been teaching for 12 years.
When she was in elementary school her older sister would let her help set up her classroom every
summer. From an early age she knew she wanted to be a teacher. She grew up in Harlan and
had so many remarkable teachers and coaches that gave her the passion to continue helping others.
Originally, she did not go into education. Sara’s first job took her into the middle school setting. After being around that age of students and seeing their enthusiasm, she went back to school with the goal of being a middle school teacher. She could not imagine doing anything else!
Sara shows #dcgexcellence by working to transition sixth graders into middle school, which is not always an easy one. The goal is to not only teach the curriculum, but to guide students into the next phase of life. She works to help them grow and hopes the life lessons help her students be better citizens, students and children at home.
Sara, along with several of her Middle School colleagues love to watch the Bachelor/Bachelorette. If there was a trivia night on it, no doubt they would take home the grand prize.
